Director, Supplier Management

Grainger is a broad line, business-to-business distributor of maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies and other related products and services. More than 3.2 million businesses and institutions worldwide rely on Grainger for products such as safety gloves, ladders, motors and janitorial supplies, along with services like inventory management and technical support. These customers represent a broad collection of industries including commercial, government, healthcare and manufacturing. They place orders online, on mobile devices, through sales representatives, over the phone and at local branches. Approximately 5,000 suppliers provide Grainger with more than 1.6 million products stocked in Grainger s distribution centers and branches worldwide.

This role is typically located in our Lake Forest office, but due to COVID-19 will be fully virtual until further notice. Once this office location has a return to work plan, the team member will be required to be on-site.

This role has strategic responsibility for the supplier relationships and cost of goods sold across the full Grainger assortment of national brand products. Leading a team of Sr Supplier Managers, Buyers, and Supplier Management Analysts, this leader will directly impact the management of $750M in COGS and 750
critical suppliers, ensuring the best assortment for our customers, at the best cost.

Critical responsibilities include:

  • Design a price/cost management strategy, which provides market competitive pricing, minimizes cost inflation, drives top-line sales growth and improves return on invested capital.
  • Lead efforts to establish, manage, and improve supplier relationships globally with Grainger and make it easier for suppliers to do business with us. Will interact with key decision makers within the supplier s organization including Vice Presidents, Presidents and CEOs.
  • Coach and develop a team to drive results with a balance of financial results, optimizing our customer s experience, and growing revenue.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor s Degree in Business Management, Master s Preferred (or willing to pursue).
  • 7-10 years business experience with strong cross-functional business knowledge (i.e. Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance, etc.)
  • Ability to understand our business direction, customer requirements, supply management-marketing strategy, and demand generation fulfillment process.
  • 5
    years experience leading large teams and coaching/developing to ensure top performance. Experience as a leader of leaders required.
  • Proven ability to drive and demonstrate results financially, strategically, and managerially.
  • Possesses a clear understanding of suppliers, customers, Grainger s strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Ability to apply visionary thought process.
  • Clear and thorough knowledge of the negotiation process and key stages. Ability to maintain strong relationships and influence effectively.
  • Proven Change Management skills by inspiring teams to welcome change, embrace new directions, and future opportunities.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
